Suresh Nagre is law unto himself. Having risen with time and circumstances, he virtually controls the city of Mumbai and runs a parallel government. He even dispenses justice when the common man cannot get it from the police, government or the judiciary. It is because of all this that Suresh Nagre has popularly come to be called Sarkar. His family comprises of his wife, younger son Shankar, elder son Vishnu, daughter-in-law and grandson. Vishnu doesn’t get along well with his father and one day, Sarkar asks him to leave home when he realises that he had become too defiant.
Although Sarkar is an enemy of the law-keepers, he is a very principled man and cannot be bribed into doing anything that his conscience will not permit. He wins the wrath of one shady businessman, Rashid, when he refuses to help him in his nefarious activities, even for a hefty price. Sarkar is blamed for the murder of a minister and sent behind bars. Rashid tries to get him murdered in jail but Shankar manages to save his father’s life. Sarkar gets bail but the foreign educated Shankar now finds himself pushed into the world of crime, which he so hated, if only to avenge the attempt on his father’s life. Besides a handful of dons and businessmen, Shankar has also to deal with his own elder brother who, by now, has become Sarkar’s enemy no. 1.
