Welcome to 36 China Town. The film opens to a suave and smooth playboy
Rocky (Upen Patel) who tries to pick up anyone in a skirt with cliché
pick up lines and then sings and dances at casinos. Seconds after that,
portrayed as a parallel story in Mumbai, enter Raj (Shahid) with his
introductory song after which he stumbles upon Priya (Kareena) who
stumbles upon a kid who is lost and has a Rs. 25,00,000 reward on him
once returned to his mother Sonia Chang (Isha Khoppikar). Raj is an out
of work wannabe actor and Priya has runaway from home due to a bad
relationship who therefore pair up in lure of splitting the reward
money. Hence post one more song they take the kid back to Goa to claim
their lottery, but only to realize that the mother Sonia Chang has been
murdered. Nuts (Paresh Rawal) a compulsive gambler who is married to a
sexbomb for a wife (Payal Rohatgi) meets Johnny Lever who is married to
Tanaaz Currim in the same casino at Goa. For some or the other reason
each one of the characters is present at the crime scene on the
ill-fated night. Enter Akshay Khanna who is the investigating officer
and hence starts his routine question and answer sessions till the
murderer is finally caught. The climax looks inspired from the famous
American detective series ‘Burke’s Law’ but fails to deliver to it’s
expectations.
The best part of the film is Upen Patel dressed in a velvet suit
dancing to Himesh Reshammiya’s tunes of the title track, even though he
still needs a few acting lessons. Shahid and Kareena have a few moments
that may just tickle your funny bone. |
